The Festival & King’s Theatres Edinburgh are investing in the future of performing arts in Scotland and we’d like to ask for your help to establish our first Youth Rep Theatre Company – The Attic Collective.
We want to give young people the skills, experience, confidence and connections they’ll need to succeed in a career in theatre. Within the setting of a working theatre this free talent development initiative will offer unrivalled industry access and crucial practical experience of performing arts to 18-26 year olds who are keen to pursue a career in theatre. The Attic Collective will take masterclasses, see shows, gain valuable knowledge of the sector and work with professional directors to create three productions a year, performed as part of the Festival & King’s Theatres programme.
Not only will they have access to our stages and in-house expertise but, as a receiving house with three venues, we can give them access to a carousel of leading industry professionals from our visiting companies. There is currently a real gap in provision for this age group with the costs of training beyond the reach of many indebted young people. The Attic Collective offers a comprehensive programme based on talent rather than income, going beyond performance skills to give targeted and practical training in other areas such as technical, marketing, production, directing, auditions training and networking all with a view to increasing their employability.
We’re offering these placements free of charge, but each place will cost is £1,250 to deliver.
